Stop Motion Animation - Challenge!

What:

Create a short stop motion animation from what you have around the house.  It can be as simple or as complicated as you like.  You can have sound or silence.  The goal is to make your inanimate object seem like it has a life of its own! Here are some ideas:

  • Show what happens to the missing sock after the laundry is done.
  • Use lego, dolls or toy figures to recreate a scene from a book or a movie
  • Use plasticine or playdough to create your own characters for your own story
  • pick your favourite song to animate

How

Here are some tutorials to help you to get started

Some things to consider when creating your animation

  • Decide on what you'd like to create. Think about the scene and what happens in it.

  • Analyse that scene and decide how many characters and props you will need to create. Consider how the characters and props move in the scene.

  • Plan your story. What happens in your animation? Create a storyboard plan.

  • Design and create your characters out of lego, clay or draw them on paper.

  • Set up your characters and take a series of pictures, only moving the characters slightly between each photograph.

There are many different stop motion apps and methods, but you can get started with these free options

Apps --> Stop motion Studio.   Or.   iMotion

Chromebook extension --> Stop Motion Animator

You may also like to use a video editor like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker to edit your finished video and to add audio or voices.

Try to be creative.  And remember, be patient!  Stop motion takes a long time.
